Today's special event...

The benefit took place today at Hale Center Theater. Tyler, the boys, and I walked in around 11:45 AM only to be greeted by fabulous Kathy sitting at the cash box! Having never previously met my extended family, she showed up to drop off her donations and decided to stay through the end of the sale and offer her help. Tyler's aunt called later that afternoon to rave about her. She didn't need to tell me - I rave about Kathy all the time myself! She's seriously one of the most genuine people I have ever met...

I said I'd post photos of some of the arrangements we donated today...here are two random shots -- I promise to post some actual photos in the next day or so. For now, I'm off to bed.

Saturday Reminder!

Just a reminder -- tomorrow morning is a bake sale/craft fair at Hale Center Theater from 11-2 benefiting Tammy Morgan. Kathy and I met today and put together some adorable arrangements for the event. I'll post photos of a sampling of the arrangements tomorrow. If any of you are interested in stopping by to purchase one, know they will be priced WAY below our normal retail prices. 100% of the purchase price will be going to Tammy. Multi-(multi-multi-multi)talented Kathy has also put together some of her amazing paper crafts (etc) to donate to the benefit. We hope you're able to make it out!

Have a great weekend!

A great cause that needs your support ... this Saturday!

I don't endorse many things on this blog, and I'm typically selective about the charitable events I plug, but I wanted to make everyone aware of a benefit coming up this Saturday (the 19th) because its one that is close to my heart.

Tyler's uncle, Scott Morgan, passed away October 6, 2007, just hours after Sam was born. He was an amazing man with a giant spirit. Anyone who runs in local theatrical circles would have known him -- both he and his wife, Tammy Morgan, are a strong force in the Utah theater/arts scene as actors and musicians. Long before he married Tammy, he contracted HIV, and AIDS eventually took his life. It was a long, hard battle, but he was an inspiration through it all. Unfortunately, his illness left behind an insurmountable amount of medical bills which his wife is now responsible for. This is going to be a lifelong mountain she's going to have to climb, paying off these bills, and there has been a steady stream of benefits sponsored by the arts community in an effort to help her. This Saturday there is going to be a Craft Fair/Bake Sale from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at Hale Center Theater (3333 Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City), the proceeds of which will go directly to Tammy.

I'm reaching out to you all in blogland for two reasons:

Please --

1. DONATE. If you have any skill whatsoever, from cupcake baking to photography to sewing to paper crafts - ANY skill or service - and you would be willing to donate an item or two, that would be fabulous! Whimsy is going to be donating quite a few arrangements and my hope is that a few of you uber-talented individuals will feel inclined to do the same. Donations can be dropped off at Hale Center Theater Saturday morning between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM (though they'll gladly take anything up until 1:00 PM), or you are welcome to drop them off here and I'll take them over when I make my delivery. If you have any questions, feel free to call Julie Blatter at 801-568-7806. Your donations are so appreciated!

2. ATTEND. I know how busy the weekends are, but if you can squeeze an hour out of your schedule to pop on over to Hale Center Theater, please do. Go for the food, or better yet, go buy one of our arrangements! Your support can make a difference.

On a side note, Tammy is an amazing woman. We all watched her care for Scott during his last year of life and were so touched by the love and compassion she showed both to him and everyone around him who was also affected by his illness. I will never forget the day he passed. Tammy left the University Hospital after he died and came directly to my hospital room at St. Marks to find solace in new life. She sat by me and held brand new baby Sam for the longest time while we talked about Scott. She brought such a peaceful feeling to our little room and I'm so grateful that Sam and I were able to share in that moment with her.

Thank you in advance for your support. It means so much to our family.

Cydne

I've lived in Utah for a while and I don't think I've seen a day as windy as today! All I can say is, thank goodness this wasn't an outdoor reception...

Cydne had a most beautiful bouquet -- Shocking, Milva, and Circus roses, green hypericum berries, yellow freesia, and yellow mini callas. Its such a departure from the dark colors and red roses we tend to drown in this time of year. Her centerpieces were very simple and a good example of centerpieces on an extremely tight budget -- rose bowls with floating white candles, yellow mokara orchids, and pink and orange rose petals, all anchored by frosted pebbles, with a sprinkling of roses petals on the table rounding things out. Of course the Joseph Smith Building is much too dark for an amateur like me to take a decent photo, so you'll have to use your imagination!

My consultation schedule is finally lightening up now that the holidays have past and the new semester has started, so if you are planning a summer wedding and want to sit down, now is the time to do it. Be aware that weekend wedding dates are flying off the calendar!

I hope everyone had a very happy New Year -- Tyler and I love going to Target and Bed Bath and Beyond after the holidays and seeing all the cute couples with the scanner guns working on their registries. Congratulations all you new Christmas engagements!
