Autumn ( ...or is it winter?) at Millcreek Inn

When I woke up Saturday morning, the first thing I noticed was how dark the sky appeared to be outside. I checked the weather which said there was a good chance of rain but that it should clear up by the afternoon. I was a little excited -- Julie was getting married at Millcreek Inn and I couldn't imagine anything prettier than the abundance of fall leaves and a mist of leftover rain. Colors always seem to be so much more pronounced during and after a rain fall so I thought it would only enhance the theme of the wedding. As the girls started showing up for the work day, I started hearing comments about SNOW and white out conditions. Snow?! It hadn't made its way to Holladay yet but sure enough, it hit us before we left for our delivery and followed us all the way up the canyon. The snow hadn't stopped by the time we left. We were drenched, but in awe of the peacefulness you tend to find in a canyon like Millcreek during a snowfall. Such beautiful silence. What a magical wedding that must have been...

Julie's colors were primarily reds, oranges, and browns with fall accents to add character. Her bouquet was a stunning mix of roses, mini callas, dahlias, freesia, chocolate cosmo and fiddleheads, camillia, salal, seeded eucalyptus, tree fern, and fall-turned maple leaves. Her bridesmaids carried what we call deconstructed bouquets -- each girl held a different flower found in the bride's bouquet. Julie also carried a small bouquet of purple lisianthus to honor her mother who was not in attendance. The wedding party wore calla lilies and freesia and the 20 tables were dressed with either a floating fall flower, a trio of cubes with candles, or a large cube with a thick pillar candle, each sitting on a bed of fall leaves. The ambiance was warm and inviting with gold and copper tones and roaring fires. What a great note to end on as we close the summer season for our team!

I've had inquiries as to what our plans are for the rest of the year. I am officially on maternity leave as of today (as much as a personality like mine can be...). The baby is due a week from today but who knows when he'll actually get here. We do have a current consultation schedule through the end of the month that I plan to keep, and will continue to schedule consultations until the slots are full. The team will be back to work in November with a lighter than normal event schedule for a bit, but will be back up to speed by the holidays. Spring and summer dates are booking quickly with some really fun designs and colors in the horizon, so if you've been thinking about it, now is the time to get your consultation appointment!

The blog will go on so don't stop visiting. We'll post photos of special order work that will continue, we'll revisit some of our favorite events with professional photographer photos, and I'll post photos of the solo work our staff will be doing during their time off from events. Stephanie and Teddy

Steph and Teddy had their gorgeous backyard reception Friday evening. Their colors were a little nontraditional -- navy, red, and orange -- but by pulling the navy in primarily with accents and focusing on the red and orange in the florals, it came together beautifully. Everything about this wedding was grand (yet so simple - does that happen often?) from the amazing catering spread to the sparkles adorning Steph's dress. Here's a few shots from their celebration. We're glad we could be a part of it!

I have to give a huge thanks to my team for all their hard work and support this week. As many of you know, I'm due to have a baby any day now. While I may be a workaholic and have been accused of being part-robot, nothing is easy when you're 39 weeks pregnant, least of all executing a weekend full of weddings (I'll post photos of our other events soon). Everyone pitched in to get the work done which included little sleep, sore bodies, and for some, pulling 10-hour days with no more than 30-minute lunch breaks. I'm so glad to have such a dedicated staff behind me. It makes all the hard work we do for your events so much easier, and so much fun!

Thank you Kathy, Jessica, Natalie, Michelle, and of course, Tyler (who made it to all our weddings this weekend to do the heavy lifting I'm used to doing myself but given the circumstances probably shouldn't be doing)! You guys are awesome!

The classic red rose...

Tonight was Lisa's reception in South Jordan. Lots of red roses, touches of white, and black accents. What a perfectly beautiful Friday to get married!

Willowcreek Country Club

Jenny got married last week at the Willowcreek Country Club. It was a blustery evening with threatening clouds overhead, but things seemed to clear up nicely as the ceremony was about to start.

Jenny had 21 tables to dress which required some careful planning on every one's part to keep from exceeding her target budget, but we were able to satisfy both needs and wants in this case. We went with two different mixed arrangements, a floating arrangement, and a trio of cubes serving as a candle scape arrangement (not shown). The bridesmaids carried small bouquets of cream roses while Jenny carried a stunning monobotanical bouquet of eggplant colored calla lilies. Thanks for letting us be a part of such a beautiful event!

Julie's bridals

Julie's bridal sitting was scheduled for this evening. She is getting married next Saturday at Millcreek Inn. For her bridals, she chose a monobotanical bouquet of flame calla lilies. Her fall themed wedding is going to be gorgeous -- can't wait!

Samantha

Samantha got married yesterday in Sandy. Her colors were hot pink, light pink and black and the flowers she chose were roses and gerbera daisies. Here's a quick sampling of her flowers -- the bride's bouquet, one of the bridesmaid clutches and flower girl clutches, and the cake. Cute and simple!

Kathy and Hal at Red Butte

I apologize -- things have been so busy around here that mere good intentions have not been enough to get me caught up on everything waiting to be done. But Kathy comes back from her mini honeymoon tonight and will be back at work tomorrow, so I figure I should at least have something to show from her wedding...

Kathy is a doll. She's an intensely creative individual who is able to take a task and run with it, which is why I love having her on my team. You can see that Kathy didn't choose traditional or expected designs. She wanted a very organic feel -- something that is evident by all the wood tones and moss accents. She had been collecting driftwood so we used those as our design medium, attaching flowers to the wood and finishing off the arrangements with moss, river stone, lotus pods, and votives. Since every piece of wood is different, each table was unique. We also brought some height to break up the room with glass cylinders containing a layer of river stone, a layer of moss, curly willow branches and wired dendrobium orchids, again with moss, rock, and votives on the table to tie everything together. The buffet table I loved -- Kathy and Hal had driven to some obscure mountain area and found this awesome, sculptural branch which we cemented in a stained wood crate and added a bed of blooms and moss at the base of the branch. The escort card table was covered in moss and contained a large stump with their carved initials, as well as stones with the guests names written on them that served as their table assignments. The guestbook table was a mixture of colors and shapes, and the cocktail tables simply contained cube candles wrapped in ribbon with mood moss and river pebbles. Her bouquet was gorgeous. The photos we got of it do not do it justice. There was such a mix of green, brown and white that I'm not even going to attempt to deconstruct it right now. It was very organic, very unruly and unexpected, and it was so Kathy. The bridesmaids (not shown) had full bouquets of various greens with a splattering of white, and the boutonnieres were of fuchsia mokara orchids and variegated lily grass. I hope to get photos of those down the road. And the cake -- oh, the cake! Kathy made the cage around the cake and we placed nothing but cymbidium orchids, a few dendrobium stems, and a touch of willow, then spread moss and stones around the base.

Everything was simply divine...
