Happy Freedom Day!

The 4th of July has always seemed to make me homesick for all the other states I've lived and worked in. From California, New England, Texas, and others, I've enjoyed the many different ways each region celebrates this holiday. My favorite? Hard to say. In New Hampshire we had killer parades -- even Presidential candidates would come out for our local July 4th parade -- homes decorated to the nines, and the amazing Boston Pops fireworks display at night (which we could watch from the rooftop). In Dallas, large crowds would gather for BBQ, live music, and a pyrotechnics display that would light up the huge Texas sky. In the Bay Area, because of the fire restrictions that have been in force decades, we would schlep our lawn chairs out to the local fairgrounds to watch beautiful explosions and reminisce about the days when fireworks were "legal." And in Utah? Well, now I'm building memories with a 5-year old who can hardly sit still from all the excitement that comes from the anticipation of staying up late and heading up the hill to watch the valley's fireworks from Wasatch Blvd. I'm not an outwardly patriotic person, but I am so grateful to live in this country and experience the freedoms that we enjoy. I wish you all a wonderful 4th!

Lemons, limes, and Jana

I never do that!
It was one of those times where I really wish I had it with me, too! Jana's reception was held in a Sandy ward house that was almost unexpectedly beautiful thanks to decor provided by Design Elite. With dark linens, a lit tent, and striking damask covered panels, it really was gorgeous! Her cake was adorable as well. (I've really got to track down the photographer this time) So all I have to show for Jana's wedding are the few pieces we took pictures of here before we left for our delivery. For Jana's designs we used roses, freesia, mini calla lilies, hypericum berries, coordinating greenery, and lots of citrus fruit. Whole, cut, submerged, in dry vases...there was citrus all over the place. Very fresh, very fun. It fit Jana well. She was a lovely client!

Jennifer at Log Haven

Jennifer's wedding took place the morning of 06-07-08 (boy were we tired that day!). Her colors were white and blue -- a challenging combination when you consider just how few blue varieties there are to choose from, especially when your objective is to keep things on a more elegant scale. We decided to err on the side of white varieties, bringing the blue in with delphinium, thistle, hydrangea, and accents such as ribbon, glass, and the head table runner (custom-made by Anne Walton of Dwell Designs in CO). Speaking of the head table...whew! Over 250 roses went into that design. The only things Tyler didn't have a chance to get a photos of were the ceremony pieces and the amazingly gorgeous cake (because it arrived 1 1/2 hours late so it was a mad dash to get it decorated before the ceremony began!). I'm waiting with bated breath to see if Brandee from Philosophy Photography got a good shot of it. Jennifer was a such a laid-back bride...love those kinds of brides...!

Stella was born on Friday, June 20th, weighing in at 6 lbs, 8 oz. Michelle is at home with her new baby girl and doing well. We're so excited for them all! (And we miss you already Michelle!)
